Hi, my name is Steve and love Pike fishing. To be fair I have fished since I was a wee lad but Piking has become an obsession! I'm no expert or serious angler just average Joe with an iPhone and GoPro.

A frustrating 2nd session on the river after perch and chub
After last weeks disaster session I tried again on Thursday with not much activity. Thankfully a lovely perch was landed and a few other bits but the river was in a weird condition.

A drawn out session after perch with not much luck. Finally I winkled out a jack pike and what must have been the smallest canal perch. Then a bit of intelligence gathering for the Angling Trust

A new venue and a beautiful Golden Orfe pb

Today was something a little different, pool fishing for coarse fish. But not any old coarse fish! There are so many different types of fish in this pool it’s crazy. I caught, Roach, Rudd, Gudgen, Mirror Carp, Common Carp, and a pb Golden Orfe of 4lb11oz. Simple tactics are all that’s needed. Maggots to the float no more than a couple of rod lengths out or surface fishing with bread or floating...

My last piking session on the river Wye

With the rivers dropping nicely I took a gamble and headed off to Birmingham Anglers Association water on the river Wye. After a slog with the lures I swapped over to deadbaiting and leap frogged up from the lower meadow. Finally I got rewarded with this fun perfect Pike.

After lots of messages via UA-cam, Facebook, instagram and private DM’s I thought it’s about time I gave an explanation as to where I’ve been. A couple of pike caught from the river Stour
Переглядів 3,3 тис.9 місяців тому
After doing some Angling Trust checks in Kidderminster I dropped back to the base of the river Stour. I had my hopes pinned on the river Severn still being flooded and the pike stacking up in the slower Stour. Thankfully I did catch but not as many as I’d hoped. From here it then went a bit pear shaped. The next venue I couldn’t fish and the one after that saw no action.

After doing a bit of baliff work on the river Severn first I dropped back on to the Danery on the Birmingham Anglers Association water. A first time for me trying flooded/flooding water, x2 rods out and both on Spam. The first fish was in immaculate condition and a new pb of 9lb10oz. Barbel fishing at Arley

A very similar session to my last here but with a new barbel pb for me at 7.8lb. Once again Spam delivering the barbel whilst I had a little fun on the light tackle with maggots and casters. A glorious day for a sun tan but thankfully, a still slightly up and coloured river.

I finally broke my barbel blanking streak! It might not be a beast of a fish but this here little dude has made my week. With the Severn falling again but still very coloured I thought conditions were in my favour. Still not an easy day but a nice perch topped off with that barbel on such a peaceful session was bliss.
I’m still alive 😜

Love your vids just wanted to know how you can tell if a fish is male or female
Hi, sorry I hadn’t been notified of your post. Glad you like the videos 👍. The easiest way to tell a male and female is their size. If a fish is a good double it will be a female. The male pike rarely seem to go over 9 or 10lb. All the big fish are girls. However they all have to grow from small don’t they. So, the other way is to look at their sexual organ area just above the anal fin. The female has something that looks like a tiny pear shaped pink area with a hole at the top (if holding the fish by the chin) and a tiny hole a bit lower. The male has a smaller less pronounced pink area and not so pear shaped, more rectangular. I hope that helps
@@BlackCountryPiker thanks I really appreciate your help and I hope to see some of your videos soon
Nice
Definitely great to see on the Worcestershire stour
Loved the video. Not just me that struggles then😅
Cheers Lee, absolutely mate 😂
Most of the time the chub and barbel top the surface and jump out to eat the flies and insects lol
I’m surprised they could see them in the faster flowing water but makes sense
Nice perch mate . I had my own pb last wk 35cm Sargent couldn’t believe I caught it to be fair 👍🏻
Ahh awesome 👍
@@BlackCountryPiker thanks pal 👍🏻
Nice perch there dude! Yeah its been scorching recently, extra 'hydration' has been needed 😂. Ive seen alot of action on the surface too 🤔
Cheers 👍 I wonder what they are doing. Just messing about, getting an oxygen boost, removing parasites 🤷♂️
Wow that's a massive perch or as Robbie in astrailia calls them red fin. I'd like to cook him up on the pan. 😊
😂😂 thanks Vincent, it was the highlight of my day 👍
Knowlesands ? 🎣🎣👍
No Mick, no fishing involved here. We went Glamping in Leadbury and my eldest and I went off grid walking, so to speak. I got to show her full grown brown hares playing and boxing too. It was brilliant
Always been my favourite bird song the Skylark since I was a kid sadly not as common now Great that you’ve put a video out like this as 99.9% of us Anglers love nature and one of the main reasons why we like to get away from the rat race Well that’s my views anyway nice one Steve 👍🏼🎣👊🏼🍻
Spot on matt, sometimes it’s the best soundtrack! Especially when you are sat there. Someone asked if I could do an ASMR style video of just countryside sound and no mechanical sound. It’s not the easiest to do these days but shows people still love to hear it 👍
@@BlackCountryPiker agreed do it M8 I’ve seen plenty of vids like that indeed have done my own amazing what y can do on just your phone there’s a chap called the silent angler on u tube take a look he’s brilliant and even catches pike and barbel what did we ever do before you tube 😜haha Looking forward to see that video 👍🏼🦆🐛🍻
@@mattgoodchild8215 ahhh I saw one of his videos the other day. I’d not heard of him before, I think he was fishing the Lugg?
@@BlackCountryPiker it’s all about relaxing taking it all in videos like that are always nice to watch maybe try some short vids 1st man rod and bird song
That was a proper summer 👍🏻
It was nice 👌
Nice
Thank you 👍
Considering you are an angling trust bailiff should you be encouraging anglers to fish illegally?
Illegally?
It looks like a good place. I live in staffordshire and I also fish with lures, but I have only caught one. I don’t know where you can recommend it because I am still a child. Is there any free or cost comparison? Low fishing pond? I am living in cannock
Hiya, I am not too familiar with Cannock but there is lots of water to look at. Most of the lakes that way are membership only. They are £40 or £50 per year. The canals over there are split between clubs and crt it’s hard to call. Your best bet is to pop in local tackle shops and ask. The canal and rivers trust offer a permit called Waterway Wanderers, for a junior it’s only £6.
Nice upload mate
Thank you 👍
Hey I was the guy who had a chat from jersey, near Anchor pub
How do mate, I had planed to give you a shout out in another video but I blanked 🤦♂️. Lovely to have chatted with you and I hope you had/have a cracking time whilst your back over here 👍
for the line twist. check your roller bearing on the bail arm. if that isnt moving freely, that could give you line twist.
Ahh nice one, I didn’t think of that 👍
I just can't ge tto grips with spinners! What am I doing wrong? I always blank on them. Great video mate
Cheers, the time I get issues is when I’m running them too high in the water. Sometimes low and low is best. This pike hit it over a shallow bank. Also size and colour can make a difference
I'm glad you regained the ability to speak!! I'd try putting a small swivel on the bottom of your trace too. Nice video, thanks for sharing look forward to the next one. Stu
😂😂 nice one, cheers Stu
Nice vid there dude. It is lovely round there. Only fished the area a couple of times, bit of a trek for me as you know. Especially with whats in the canals closer to home 😉.
😂😂 yes, we don’t have the variation you do. Cheers 👍
awsome video 🎣
Thank you 👍
decent fish on classic spinner, great job.
Cheers 👍
0:06 You can't speak English any day, your from the Black Country ; ) I have to put the subtitles on for all your video's lol Just joking Steve but i couldn't help myself : )
😂😂😂😂😂
Nice video mate, I enjoyed it! Try getting a twist buster lead, only a few quid. Tie it on and cast it out a few times, it will sort out the line twist. Just give it an occasional chuck out going forward - spinners are a nightmare for line twist. If not, a standard bomb will help with just more casts needed.
Nice one Lee, I’ve not heard of that so will look at it 👍
@@BlackCountryPiker no problem mate. They’re good, used to used them for carping 👍🏻🎣
What a lovely video as always from the canal lure master himself Top notch 👍🏼🎣👊🏼🍻

Wot part of bridgenorth is that mate
Upper Bridgnorth mate not town water 👍
I enjoy watching your videos but find myself cringing and shouting at the TV... You keep these fish (pike) out of the water far too long while you're talking to us... Please put the fish back sooner... You have them out so long they even stop thrashing...
Hi, I am sorry you feel this way but I assure you all the fish I catch go back perfectly well. Fish will always thrash about once or first brought out of the water as they will be fully recovered. All the fish I catch are well rested up before hand and then once again before being released. I have caught pike for many years now and know how to handle them. There are other channels/videos you will find that have fish out far longer. Again, sorry if this offends you 👍
@@BlackCountryPiker no you don't offend me in any way and looking back at it again I see there a many edit cuts we don't notice so it's very possible my opinion is wrong... Carry on what you're doing I feel certain you would not do anything to hurt the fish and ignore my critique ❤️👍
@@MrBoshysTube I welcome all feedback and it’s good to know you look out for poor angling. You are right, there’s always lots of cuts/edits to shorten things so it doesn’t get boring.
Hello mate, I have just moved into the Kidderminster area and was wondering what are the best club to join for fishing The canals and rivers in the area I’m a predator angler and love walking to find the fish I’m a member of BAA and was told that’s all I need but just a bit of advice on that matter would be great thank you
Hiya, most of the canal around kiddy is BAA and we have loads of river bank too. However, there is also KDAA “Kidderminster District Angling Association”. They have some river bank from above Bewdley down to Blackstone. And a pool just out of kiddy and near stone. Obviously you’ll also need your rod licences 👍
A surprise mention, wasn’t expecting that 🎣
I was too shy to say hello as I walked past with Lee, sorry. Knowing how well you know the water I was intrigued as to what you caught. I believe there was a chap your end on the waggler that was up to 8 fish by 12ish
Ah, you should have done. Next time 👍 I only just caught Lee when he was past me. There’s been multiple catches when they move in but very slow times as well. If you stay there a while then inevitably you hit a few 🎣
Good job mate was just wondering what rod and reel you use
Thank you, for my lighter to medium stuff it’s an Abu Garcia 9ft 10-45g vengeance
Thanks
@@user-op2yd4ii7x your welcome 👍
Looks a great days fishing i use to work not far from there never heard about it ive took the details definitely give it a go great video as well 👍
It’s a lovely little place 👍
Enjoyed this ❤
Thank you 👍
I know where that is, it’s down the canal aye it 😂 Get amongst them, need to take my Perch gear somewhere 🎣🎣🎣
It god is R! 😂
There's a weed over here called Didymo ( rock snot!) that grows like a slimy algae all over the rocks and it destroys water quality. Transferred by boats and nets etc. It's a real problem so it's great you took the time to bring it up about that weed you have.
Rock snot! 😂 sounds a right nightmare and similar issues as to here, just a different sort. With all the board moving out for the good weather and festivals due it spreads like wildfire. Then anglers unwittingly transferring it
Superb video m8 nice to see you back amongst the preds great sport on light gear and some sound advice for everyone to watch out for 👍🏼🎣🍻
Thanks Matt, greatly appreciated 👍

I do intend to fish some of the smaller rivers the BAA have this season 👍
@@BlackCountryPiker The Teme has always been pretty good for barbel in previous years but I think I'm going to get the BFS setup on it and target some of the chub for a few sessions.
@LG_Fishing it has trout as well doesn’t it
@@BlackCountryPiker browns, rainbows and grayling I've been told - though truthfully I've never caught one or tried catching them from the Teme - definitely worth considering. I've seen some pictures of salmon from it too
@@LG_Fishing 👌
In my crayfish trapping days, iv found these nets illegally placed right by my nets but obviously I was fully legal with licences attached to my traps and with landowners permission. So I done the right thing and took them home with me and straight in the bin. Our fellow migrants love eating crayfish back in their home country so they often trap for them on our canals. The EA will (used to) grant you a licence to trap for invasive crayfish on the canals but the CRT have banned all trapping on canals due to the hazard of them being caught up in boat propellers
Spot on matey, not many know you need a licence 👍.
We need take 1 🤣 , nice upload mate
Cheers matey 😂😂
yup they are really hard fighting once they take the bait but more shy than bream, roach etc
Very true 👍
Nice Video steve, at this rate you will have to change your channels name
